Monthly contact lenses
Monthly contact lenses can be devided into two types. The first type includes contact lenses that can be worn for 30 days (during daytime only) without scheduled replacement. You simply have to put them on in the mornings and take off at night. But there is another, second type of monthly contact lenses. It includes contact lenses that can be worn for a whole month without taking off (day-and-night contact lenses). After this period you throw them out and use new pair.
Monthly contact lenses are the most popular among all other types of contact lenses that need scheduled replacement.They are usually sold in packages, containing from 3 to 6 blisters. For manufacturing of these contact lenses are used modern silicone-hydrogel and hydrogel materials. Thanks to short period of wearing, monthly contact lenses are protected from any contaminants and they are absolutely safe for people who suffer from allergy. Protein complexes, salts and microorganisms, which are formed from lacrimal fluid and deposited on the lens are not dangerous for monthly contact lenses, and so they do not need enzyme purification.
As it has already been mentioned, monthly contact lenses are the most popular among all other types of contact lenses. At the same time many professional ophthalmologists consider that the most healthy way of wearing monthly contact lenses is when you use them only during the daytime (and take off in the evening). However, there is a rather big group of people, which prefer continuous and uninterrupted type of wearing. These people are:
- Older people and small children which have difficulties with putting on, taking off and taking care of contact lenses;
- Young people which lead an active lifestyle, travel a lot and go to night clubs;
- People which have irregular working hours, flexitime or often go to business trips.
Considering these circumstances, manufacturers of contact lenses developed and began to produce contact lenses, which can be worn for 30 days without taking off. These contact lenses has high permeability for oxygen, and so eye cornea has no shortage in it (what completely eliminates, and, in some cases, significantly reduce the risk of hypoxic damage. Of course, you have to consult with professional ophthalmologist and undergo medical examination before changing your wearing routine from daily to continuous and uninterrupted. Never wear contact lenses beyond the period that specified by the manufacturer. So, if you purchased monthly contact lenses and put them on for 2 or maybe 3 times during month period, you are still have to throw them away and use new pair (you begin to count days after opening blister). This necessity is connected with the fact that it is very important to utilize contact lenses after their operational period has expired, because otherwise further use of contact lenses can cause serious complications (material properties of contact lenses can change abruptly after product life has come to an end). Never forget about it and take care of your eye health!
